Less than an hour’s drive west of downtown Atlanta is the friendly city of Carrollton Georgia. Being somewhat off the beaten path (14 miles south of I-20) Carrollton has not seen the exponential growth that other metro Atlanta cities have. With its slower pace Carrollton’s small town southern charm has survived the population boom of the metro area.
Population- The current population of Carrollton Ga. is approximately 20,000. The population increase has only been about 4,000 people in the last ten years. The relative slow growth of Carrollton has helped it remain a relaxed place to Live, Learn, Work, and Play.
Geography- The landscape around Carrollton tends to be gentle rolling hills. The geographic region the city is located in is known as the Piedmont Region and literally means, “foot of the mountains.”
Climate- The temperate climate of the area brings invigorating seasonal changes. The average temperature in winter is around 45F and in the summer months in the upper 70’s and low 80’s. The average annual rainfall is 51 inches.
Business- Carrollton is the county seat of Carroll County and a business hub for the west central Georgia and east central Alabama area. Retail businesses in the area are a nice mix of locally owned establishments and name brand franchises.
Historically being a commercial center for the area the city has a wealth of industry. Some of the larger employers have been here for quite some time.
Southwire , the world’s largest privately owned manufacture of wire and cable was established in 1950. With plants all over the world, Southwire retains its corporate headquarters and a plant in Carrollton. Other major employers of the area include Tanner Medical Center, University of West Georgia and Goldkist.
Carrollton Georgia is a city of the old south with a rich history of being one of the last frontiers in Georgia. From its beginnings as lands of the Creek Indians to a vibrant economic and social center, Carrollton is a gem of the south.
